Supa. Aug 08, 2013 #1. My convertible top is malfunctioning and the trunk won't close properly. The top will latch on to the car, but the trunk gets stuck and won't close. The trunk only closes when the top is down. The last time my top malfunctioned, the whole roof wouldn't come out of the trunk all together, AND the trunk won't close.

The wiring and sensors notify the ptcm (power top control module) that the sections are in the proper place to continue retracting the top. I would reinsert the trunk liner into the slots and cycle the key and top would again function. When the top stops after tonneau extension the problem is usually a bad tonneau extended switch, a broken wire in the decklid harness where it bends around the trunk hinge or a bad header latch motor. In most instances simply clearing codes and resetting PTCM will not help. Reading the DTCs in PTCM is a very good start though. The newer 200 platform was apparently too costly to engineer for the purpose, and now even that platform is gone. The knob that controls the latches was stuck. Take the upper panel behind the mirrors off. There is a "star" knob in the middle. Turn it to the right until it clicks. I gutted the entire rear end and followed the harnesses to do a visual check but did not discover any visual issues...windows still go 3/4 way down and stop-top malfunction read appears-press 'down' again and same thing...windows go down , stop and hear a 'click' somewhere in rear...hear a 'click' every time I press down on the switch.
