Nov 16, 2022 · As long as a BMC isn't needed, I would be willing to do some plastic trimming to fit a 285/70R17, but my next tire will be a 255/80R17. The 255/80 is a true 33" tire, often a little over, like 33.3-33.4" (most 285/70's are slightly below 33") and shouldn't rub any more than a 285/70 does. These are stock size (265/70R17's), with a 2" lift.

I know TONS of 4runner owners run 285/70R17 tires on TRD PRO wheels 17x7" and SR5 alloy 17x7" wheels. HOWEVER, 285/70R17 tires calls for rim width range of 7.5-9" so technically minimum of 7.5" of rim width is required.
